This scenic trail passes through the breathtaking Shira Plateau, featuring Cathedral Peak and the stunning Shira Caldera, before connecting the Shira Ridge to Shira 2 Camp. It’s one of the most beautiful approaches to Kilimanjaro, known for its rich landscapes, gradual ascent, and low foot traffic until merging with the Machame Route. From there, climbers continue through iconic landmarks such as Lava Tower, Barranco, and Barafu, forming part of the southern circuit.

This 6-day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route itinerary offers breathtaking scenery, from lush rainforest to vast Shira Plateau and the dramatic Barranco Wall. Starting on the western slopes, the trail joins the Machame Route before the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Itinerary Details

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, where you’ll complete park registration. After lunch, the hike starts through the lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and colorful birds. The trail gently climbs to Forest Camp, where you’ll spend your first night surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.

Day 2: Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1

The trail continues upward, leaving the forest and entering the heather and moorland zone. As you hike across rolling hills and open terrain, enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s Shira Ridge and Kibo Peak in the distance. You’ll reach Shira Camp 1 by afternoon and relax as the sun sets over the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 to Shira 2 to Moir Hut

Today is a key acclimatization day. You’ll trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world, toward Shira Camp 2 and then continue to Moir Hut — a less-visited area nestled beneath the Lent Hills. You may take a short acclimatization walk on the hills before dinner.

Day 4: Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

The trek begins with a gradual ascent toward the famous Lava Tower, reaching 4,600 meters. This is an important acclimatization point where you’ll stop for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp. The descent helps your body adjust to altitude, and you’ll camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall — one of Kilimanjaro’s most iconic sights.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, you’ll climb the steep Barranco Wall, a thrilling but rewarding challenge that offers incredible views of the valleys below. Continue through alpine desert terrain, passing Karanga Camp before reaching Barafu Camp. This is your base for the summit attempt — rest, eat well, and prepare for an early start to reach Uhuru Peak.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Around midnight, you’ll begin your final ascent to the summit under a sky full of stars. Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, descend carefully to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Moshi

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. A driver will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi for a warm shower, celebration, and rest after conquering Africa’s tallest mountain.
